BANK AT CHAPIN FAILS TO OPEN; EXAMINER THERE The Chapin State bank was closed for examination Monday morning on vote of the board of directors. A. J. Adams of the state auditor's office took charge of the institution immediately for an examination. Officials of the bank said the resolution to close was adopted at a meeting Saturday evening. It was not deemed advisable to operate any longer with decreased deposits. Officials explained that the closing was voluntary on their part. John Onken is president of the Chapin bank which is capitalized at $25,000. Some of the best known citizens of the county are directors and stockholders. It is generally understood in Chapin that heavy withdrawals within the last few days is the direct cause of closing.
