WOMAN ADMITS FRAUD IN BANK Changes Mind When Jury Is Picked and Pleads Guilty to Charge. Clinton. la., Dec. Mrs. Emma Conover. assistant cashier of the Low Moor Savings bank, receivers' hands since early this year, pleaded guilty today fraudulent banking, one of number of indictments pending against her. Sentence will be pronounced next Thursday Mrs. Conover had first indicated she would stand trial and jury had been selected when she changed her mind and pleaded guitly She is subject to fine not ceeding prison sentence not 10 years, jail son tence nor to exceed year combination of prison sentence and fine. Bank Closed January 10 The indictments against the Low Moor woman banker were based on the sudden closing of her bank last Jan. 10. The afternoon of Jan. her father, Charles Beuch, president of the bank, found note from her saying she was going to commit He notified her husband, Conover. who operates store Low Moor, and search was start for her. Dr. Ralph Luse was asked to assist. He saw her from distance crawling out on the ice the Wapsie river. Before he could reach her she had plunged into the water. At this particular point, however, was shallow. and before she could drown herself he was able to pull her out of the water.

WOMAN BANKER PLEADS GUILTY CLINTON, Dec. 21.-(AP)-Mrs. Emma Conover, assistant cashier of the Low Moor Savings bank, in receiver's hands since early this year, pled guilty today to fraudulent banking, one of number of indictments pending against her. Sentence will be pronounced next Thursday. since she was a young girl. Besides her husband, Burel Merrifield, she is survived by two children, Lynn and Mrs. George Merrifield, both of Cedar Rapids, and two brothers. Clifford Wicher, Moline, Ill., and Floyd Wicher, of this city. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the LesingerPolansky chapel with the Rev. George Stauffacher in charge. Burial will be at Linwood cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel tonight between 7 and 9 o'clock. Former Ely Resident Dies. A. W. Pudil, 79, a former resident of Ely and vicinity, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. C. Dalleska, in Winona, Minn., at 6:40 p.m. Monday. He left Linn county many years ago, going to a farm near Backoo, D. Since Sept. he had been in Winona. Besides his wife he survived by his daughter, Mrs. Dalleska and three sons, Charles. Cedar Rapids: Frank and Otto, both of Backoo, N. D., and two step-daughters, Mrs. Frances Jiroucha, Racine, Wis., and Mrs. Emma Truhlar, Cedar Rapids. He also leaves two brothers. Frank Pudil. Swisher, and J. W. Pudil, Cedar Rapids, besides seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services and burial were to be in Winona today, Funeral For Palumbo Boy. Funeral services for John Frederick Palumbo, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Palumbo, will be held in the home, 107 North Tenth street west, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday The Rev. Father D. J. Lenihan will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Besides his parents he is survived by three sisters, Josephine, Mary Grace and Mercedes. He also leaves a grandfather. A. Palumbo, and a grandmother, Mrs. Mary Scolaro, all of this city. A brother, Anthony, preceded him in death two years ago. Friends may call at the home this evening.

He is past ruler of the Lodge of member of the Blue Lodge Royal Arch Knights Templar Aahmes Temple of Shrine, the Odd Fellows. and has been president of the Stanislaus County Shrine Club. In civic work. he has taken role chamber merce having served as of that organization. He is at present Scott one of the organizers of Boy Scouts in Modesto and has chairman of the scout court of honor since its formation.
