THIRTY-FIRST DAY-SENATE. Prayer by Rev. Dr. Daniels, city. ENROLLED BILLS RATIFIED. The following bills and resolutions were reported, properly enrolled and signed by the speaker of the House which were duly ratified by the presi dent of the Senate: Act in regard to real property. Act to amend thecharter of the town of Biltmore, Buncombe county. Act to amend chapter 295 Laws 1895 Act to incorporate the Girls' Train ing School at Franklinton, N. C. Resolution to pay the sub committee actual expenses for visiting Western Hospital at Morganton. Act protecting the poor fishermen of Carteret county from monopolies. Act authorizing trustees of Why Not Academy to make title to certain lot. Act allowing Trinity Land company to hold land in excess of 300 acres. Act to incorporate David Lodge, No. 108, I. O. 0. F. Act amending the charter of the Murfreesboro railroad company so that it may extend its main line through Bertie county without township or county tax and act to incorporate the Murfreesboro High school. Act to pro tect citizens of Swain county against floating logs in certain streams in Swain county. Act to authorize the commissioners of Mitchell county to fund compromise and settle public debt. Act to prevent prize fighting in North Carolina. BILLS AND RESOLUTIONS were introduced, read the first time by title and referred to appropriate committes: Cook, bill to change the name of Great Falls Power Co., to that of Roanoke Rapid Power Co. Corpora tions. Marshall, bill to change Yadkin county to the 8th judicial district. Judiciary. Bellamy, bill to allow Mary Brantley to sue the Insane Asylum of North Carolina. Judiciary. Paddison, resolution authorizing the treasurer to pay expenses of sub committee which visited Castle Hayne penitentiary farm. Calendar. Also resolutions to expunge from the journal of the session of 1893, the con gratulatory resolution to Grover Cleveland. Calendar. Herbert, bill to place J. W. Humble, a disabled ex Confederate soldier of Cherokee upon the pension list. Finance. Hoover, bill to provide an insurance law for North Carolina. Insurance. Rice, bill to amend the charter of the city of Wilmington, New Hanover county. Corporations. THE CALENDAR. House bill 164, Senate bill 388, to authorize commissioners of Hyde county to levy a special tax on a rollcall, passed its third reading-ayes 99, noes 0. Senate bill 250, authorizing Charlotte and Mecklenburg county to purchase fair grounds. Referred to Agricul tural committee. To establish a system of public roads for Madison county on its third reading. Passed-ayes 35, noes 0. To incorporate Steele Mills in the county of Richmond, on its second reading, was, on motion, informally passed over. To allow ex sheriff J. G. Neal, of McDowell county, to collect back taxes for the years 1885, '86, '87, '88 and '80, passed second and third readings. To incorporate the town of Leggett, Edgecombe county, passed second and third reading. To abolish the county boards of edu cation and office of county superin tendent of education, was laid upon the table. To amend and extend the charter of the Atlantic, Yadkin and Reidsville Railroad Company, passed second and third readings. To favor Sam P. Austin, an ex-Confederate soldier, asking that he be placed upon the pension list. Passed second and third readings. To authorize commissioners of Anson county to allow J. W. McGregor a credit for the amount of money he had on deposit in the bank of New Hanover when it suspended payment, belong ing to county taxes for 1892, passed second and third readings. To put D. W. Paunill, of Mitchell county, upon the pension list as a first class pensioner, passed second and third readings. To amend chapter 542, laws 1891, protecting opossums, adding the coun ties of Alamance, Orange, Caswell, Durham, Guilford. Passed second and third readings. To amend sections 2644 and 2555 of the Code, "the public school land," came up on its second reading, and, on motion of Mr. Grant it was re-ferred to committee on education.
