LANSING BANK HAS WEATHERED "RUN" Funds From Outside Institutions Not Necessary to Stem Tide of Withdrawals LANSING. Mich., April 23.-(Special)-Although the City National bank, defrauded of $57,000 by Cashier Fred J .Hopkins, who took his own life Tuesday, when his shortages were about to be discovered. kept its doors open until late Wednesday night, few depositors appeared to withdraw their funds. During the day there was a run on the bank. but Tunds deposited by Detroit and Grand Rapids banks were not necessary to stem the tide, the institution being able to meet all demands from its own coffers. Bonds and stocks owned by the dead cashier have been turned over to the bank and will reduce the amount of its loss to $35,000. National Bank Examiner Cooper is still working on the books. but has failed to find any further defalcations. It was learned that Hopkins had been diverting money paid in on certificates of deposit to his own use.
