HOLTVILLE GIVES DEMONSTRATION OF GOOD FAITH Business Men And Farmers Meet To Show Confidence In Banks. Gathering in a tribute of confidence to the First National Bank of Holtville and other Imperial Valley financial institutions, 125 business men and ranchers of the Holtville area convened there this morning at the request of Gordon Schneider, president of the Holtville Chamber of Commerce and a depositor in the Holtville Bank which yesterday closed its doors. An attitude of bright optomism pervaded the gathering, as it listened to talks by Schneider, John Zenos, Elmer Baxter, director of the First National Bank of Holtville and others. Schneider expressed the opinion the closing of the Holtville Bank is only a temporary protective measure, and that arrangements can soon be made to reopen its doors. The bank closed yesterday on orders of the board of directors, because of late heavy withdrawals and to prevent a run. Baxter told the listeners the First National Bank was still doing business, receiving deposits, making loans and opening new accounts. He expressed satisfaction at the condition of the bank's affairs. Zenos, who is a large depositor in the Holtville Bank, was one of the most convincing speakers. He told the business men and farmers he is satisfied the Holtville Bank will soon be open for business, and its closing does not reflect an unsatisfactory financial condition. John McFaul, chief of the state banking departments, was in charge of the Holtville Bank today at the request of President S. E. Shaw.
