RUMOR STARTS RUN ON BANK OF MOBERLY A rumor was partly responsible for a run being made on the Bank of Moberly, according to a news item appearing in the Moberly Index Saturday. The following is the item in the Moberly paper concerning the situation there: The visit of a state bank examiner to inspect the Bank of Moberly yesterday was followed this morning by rumors, apparently without any foundation, that the bank was in some trouble and this afternoon a "run" of sizeable proportions developed.

RUMOR NEARLY CAUSED RUN ON A MISSOURI BANK Moberly, Mo., April 27.—Rumor—as wild as Vergil's graphic picturization—caused uneasiness among depositors of the Bank of Moberly here recently. Following a regular visit of the state bank examiner, it was reported that the bank was in trouble and a "run" of sizeable proportions developed. All who asked for their funds, were accomodated and fear gradually disappeared. Bank officials are seeking the source of the rumor.

CAUGHT STARTER OF BANK RUN Run on Bank of Moberly Result of False Statements—Grand Jury Indicted J. C. White. J. C. (Chap) White, formerly of Moberly, was arrested at Eminence, Mo., in the southeast part of the state, Saturday evening, by a Pinkerton detective. White is charged with having made false statements about the Bank of Moberly some weeks ago and which, it is alleged, caused the incipient run on that splendid institution two weeks ago Saturday. The Randolph county grand jury indicted White a day or so after the rumor was spread and authorities in all parts of the state have been looking for him. White formerly worked with the Lynch-McDonald Construction Co., on some contracts in Randolph county, where they had large contracts. In Iron county he had a contract to feed their employes. White also formerly taught school in Jacksonville, Mo.

MOBERLY, MO., MAN IS HELD AS CAUSING RUN ON BANK MOBERLY, MO., April 30.—(Special.)—J. C. White is in jail here following his arrest in Eminence, charged with having made false statements about the Bank of Moberly which are alleged to have caused a run on the bank on April 14. Several thousand dollars were paid out by the bank before a rumor that it was insolvent could be stopped. A grand jury in session in Moberly at the time indicted White. He denies that he said anything about the bank.

J. C. WHITE UNABLE TO FURNISH HIS BOND J. C. White, who was arrested Saturday on a grand jury indictment charging him with having made statements which resulted in a run on the Bank of Moberly here on April 14, is still in the county jail in Moberly, having failed to furnish the $2,000 bond which is required by the Circuit Court. JOE FORD DIES AT SHELBINA Word was received here this afternoon that Joe Ford died last night at his home in Shelbina, Mo. He leaves a widow and two children, besides a number of other relatives and friends. He is a cousin of Henry and William Nise of this city. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon from the residence of his father, Tom Ford, of Shelbina.

J. C. WHITE RELEASED FROM JAIL ON BOND J. C. White, who has been in the county jail in Moberly since Sunday, having been arrested in South Missouri on a grand jury indictment charging him with having made statements which resulted in a run on the Bank of Moberly, was released on $2,000 bond this afternoon. The bond was signed by White, Janette R. White, a sister, and P. B. Stice.

Arrested On Serious Charge J. C. (Chap) White, formerly of Moberly, was arrested at Eminence, Missouri, Saturday, charged with starting the rumor about the Bank of Moberly, that caused a run on the bank some two weeks ago. White was arrested by a Pinkerton detective and taken to St. Louis. He formerly taught school in Randolph county but of late years has been an employee of the McDonald-Lynch Construction Co. and was recently discharged by this firm.

CAUSED BANK RUN Moberly, Mo., April 29.—J. C. White is in the county jail here today following his arrest in Eminence, Shannon county, yesterday on a charge of having made false statements concerning the Bank of Moberly, statements that are alleged to have caused a run on the bank. The run on the bank occurred April 14 when rumors were started to the effect the institution was insolvent. Several thousand dollars was paid out by the bank officials before the rumor could be stopped and depositors could be convinced the bank was in excellent condition. A grand jury in session at Moberly at the time took the matter up and returned an indictment against White, who had left town. Detectives were brought in and yesterday White was found in South Missouri. White will be given a hearing in the June term of the circuit court.
