REQUEST RECEIVER OF PHELPS COUNTY BANK BE SELECTED Petition For Receiver To Be Heard In District Court Here December 21 LUIKHART IN CHARGE A petition asking the appointment of a receiver for the Phelps County bank was filed by State Attorney Sorensen in district court here this morning. Action on the petition will probably be taken at the next session of district court on December 21, when Judge R. R. Horth of Grand Island will be here in Judge James' place, holding court. E. H. Luikhart, secretary of the department of trade and commerce is named in the petition as official receiver for the bank but as his state duties keep him from handling each individual case, some person will be appointed to act as the local receiver. That this action would be taken, was indicated by George W. Woods, state bank commissioner, when he was here a week ago, conferring with the larger depositors of the bank. M. R. Beckord, who was sent here by the state banking department immediately after the bank suspended business last month, has been in charge of the property since then. Although the bank building has been open for the convenience of owners of safety deposit boxes and Mr. Beckord has issued statements of accounts to depositors, regular banking business was stopped November 4, when the bank closed. The death of Henry Erickson at that time left the bank without a legal quorum of directors.
