has been paying taxes on it. —City firemen were watering elm trees on the court house lawn with a high pressure hose yesterday afternoon, in an attempt to rid the leaves of tiny red spiders, who cover the undersurface of the leaves with white webs, and cause the leaves to wither and drop. —The R. F. Hopwood family has returned home from Topeka, Kan., where they were involved in an automobile accident. Their car was sideswiped by another machine, and was seriously damaged, but no one was hurt. —County Treasurer C. E. Millhouse announces that the final one-half payment on real estate taxes becomes delinquent on September 1, and will draw interest at seven per cent if not paid by that date. —Buffalo county owns a house in Osceola, Neb., it was learned when County Attorney Guy N. Henninger reported to the board that he had received $6.29 as a rent payment for the house. The home was bequeathed to the county some years ago by an elderly couple to whom the county had given financial assistance. —Tax refunds were granted by county board members in regular session this week as follows: $23.90, $19.90 and $13.60 to H. O. Gustafson; $31.08 and $115.91 to the Nebraska Central Building and Loan association. The payments had been charged and accepted by error. —A department of banking claim for $75, for rent for use of part of the Farmers State bank building by the county treasurer June 16 to July 16 was rejected by the county board yesterday. Chairman Gilbert L. Carver of the general fund claims committee, wrote on the rejected claim that P. A. Sullivan (the bank receiver) had agreed "to allow us to stay without rent as reduction on excessive rent."
