Baton Rouge, La. Jan. 11.-A denunciation from the bench, by Judge Brunot, of the haste in which the prosecution of the Capital City Bank officers was conducted, featured the arraignment of the bankers in the district court this morning. The three officials: William McCausland, president; Kemp C. Smith, vice-president; and A. A. Wren, cashier-pleaded guilty to the charge of violating the State Banking law which was originated by State Bank Examiner Young and instituted by District Attorney Holcombe upon the insistance of Attorney General Pleasant. They were fined $1000 each by Judge Brunot, the minimum penalty under the law. The bankers paid their fines. The Capital City Bank conducted business this morning under normal conditions after having weathered a run Saturday, made upon it by depositors who became alarmed over the charges filed against its officers. One deposit of $10,000 was reported. The deposits totalled $20,000 up to noon, the officers reported. In passing sentence upon Messrs. McCausland, Smith and Wren, Judge Brunot said: "The court will not comment upon the wisdom of the banking laws of the state, but will accept your plea as indicative of your recognition of the importance of these laws and of the necessity of their enactment.
