She is, of course, loyal to Guthrie, but she started her first experiments at investment in Wichita, and she has met with such uniform good luck here that she wisely has concluded not to try her fortune anywhere else, What she once considered a misfortune was the luckiest thing that ever happened. She had money in the Wichita National bank when it failed during the panic in the early '90s. The bank had a lot of property then and it gave her, through its receiver, some residence properties that were then very cheap in settlement of her account. She had splendid business instinct in accepting the settlement, for in a few years the property began advancing and has since become six or seven times more valuable as a rental or selling proposition than it was then. While here yesterday she visited a great many of her old friends, who are always glad to see her, and to know that she is continuing in the enjoyment of pros perity.
