DON'T WANT MONEY
Despite all the hue and cry concerning dividends from closed banks there are hundreds of depositors and other creditors who have neglected to call for dividends when notified by receivers.
Harry Folk, who is receiver for the First Trust & Savings and People Cooperative State bank, revealed today that more than 800 dividend checks for less than $2 had to be turned back into the general fund because creditors did not ask for their money.
A similar problem exists with the Central State bank of Whiting. Appearing before Superior Judge Harold Strickland this morning, Receiver Charles Gainer queried the court concerning the proper procedure on small accounts which had not been called for.
Judge Harold L. Strickland, today, approved a petition of Harry E. Folk, requesting permission to pay to 9,000 depositors of the First Trust & Savings bank of Hammond an additional five per cent dividend.
This dividend will amount to a cash disbursement to depositors of $160,000 and is made available from cash acquired through the liquidation of various assets of the bank together with funds borrowed from the Reconstruction Finance corporation. This will make a total of 20 per cent in dividends paid to the depositors of the First Trust & Savings bank.
