A. M. Thoroman, superintendent of Iola schools, spoke at the Saturday morning session of the teachers convention at Chanute last week on the subject, "Teacher's Retirement Funds.' Mr. Thoroman's talk was well received. The Iola high school girls' glee club sang several numbers at the meeting.

Every fall there is day when the leaves first begin to fall in earnest. Yesterday was that day here. By noon yards and streets were covered with a restless blanket of gold and orange, and the air was filled with leaves lightly making their sparkling descent from the limbs which lately mothered them.

The Business and Professional Women's club of Coffeyville will broadcast tonight from 7:30 to 8:30 over the Coffeyville station, KGGF. as announced by Miss Alice Miles. local president, for the benefit of club members. Judge Grace Miles, Independence, state parliamentarian, will make the principal address. Another address will be made by Warner Lombe. chairman of the convention committee of the Coffeyville chamber of commerce.

Mr. Keith is a cousin of Mrs. Varner and for a number of years has been city salesman, furnisher and decorator for the Davidson Furniture Co. Mr Miller is the owner and operator of one of the largest Ford agencies in Kansas City and Mr. Winns is radio engineer in the employ of the National Broadcasting company and is in Kansas City for the time being installing new equipment.

Funeral of Miss Flippin. The funeral of Miss Lillian Flippin, who died suddenly Saturday morning, will be held at 2 p. m. tomorrow at the Second Baptist church, the Rev. Mr. Jackosn officiating. Interment will be in the Highland cemetery.

Mrs. John Burns, who was called to Birmingham, Ala., about ten days ago by the death of her sister-inlaw, Mrs. Harold Standley, returned Friday. Mrs Burns was accompanied home by her brother and his two little children, Joan and Billy Ruth. The father returned to Birmingham, leaving the children here in the care of Mr. and Mrs. Burns who will rear them.

Mr. and Mrs. Erik Jensen, 415 South Cottonwood, returned from Ellsworth Sunday, where they were called two weeks ago on account of the death of Mrs. Jensen's brother, E. T. Querry, who received injuries when the Union Pacific bus hit his car at a crossing northwest of Ellsworth.
