Description

Contemporary reports (Nov 17, 1908) state the bank 'closed' after discovery of a $22,000 shortage caused by the cashier's embezzlement; the president reported there had been a run and the Comptroller closed the bank. Later clipping (1933) names a receiver for the Citizens National Bank of Monticello, indicating the bank must have resumed operations after the 1908 suspension and remained in business until the 1933 conservatorship/receivership. Therefore the most likely episode classification is a run that led to a suspension in 1908, with the bank subsequently reopening and operating until 1933.
