STATEMENT The Banks in Madison county wish to further explain to the public and their patrons as nearly as possible the present status of the banking sitnation as it is today. The President of the United States has declared Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday holidays in the banking business, and has is sued a proclamation to all banks to cease operation during this period, pending further instructions, and has called Congress to meet today at which time they will take some decided action to relieve the present unnecessary alarm and disturbance that has brought about the present conditions. The newspapers are all carrying the details of the proclamation Your deposits are just as safe in the Banks of Madison county today as they were before. The President of the United States has commanded the banks and citizens to remain loyal and that is what any good-soldier will do. "Obey the Orders of His Superiors.' We are in effect soldiers and are now under such rules and regulations as the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States will prescribe from time to time We expecting some definite instructions as to how we shall proceed until Congress has passed much laws as are necessary to meet the existing emergency. We are more than glad to advise with you personally and are ready and willing to do all that we possibly can and as soon as we are permitted to help relieve the local situation.
