General. Mme. Janauschek, the actress, died in New York. Ground has been broken for the first building of a great negro educational institution at Spalding, five miles from Birmingham, Ala. The first building will cost $30,000. Window lithographs and free passes to the circus will soon be a thing of the past if the ideas of the proprietors of the James A. Bailey and the Ring. ling Bros.' shows are carried out. The excited savings depositors 01 the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Savings bank created a run on the institution and drew about $50,000 of their deposits. It is considered that the run is broken Because they whispered and giggled incessantly in church at Battle Creek, Mich., four prominent young girls Hazel and May Ralph, Eva Phelps and Ella Archer were taken up by the po lice. Cool headed officials, actors and oth ers in the Harlem opera house in New York checked a panic in which nearly all the persons in the audience left their seats. As a fire engine was passing a woman in the balcony cried "Fire." Notices have been posted announc ing the temporary shutting down of the steel mill and bar mill of the South Deerirg (III.) plant of the International Harvester works. The suspension of work will throw 600 men out of employment.
