# UNITED STATES CIRCUIT COURT-Judge Underwood In the case of Captain Nelms vs. The Steamer John Sylvester, in action to recover damages for injuries received in the vessel, the jury rendered a verdict for the plaintiff, fixing the amount at $4,500. Governor H. A. Wise for plaintiff; Judge Robert Ould for defendant. United States vs. Thomas Pritchard and same vs. Jesse Govans for violation of internal revenue laws in illicitly selling distilled spirits. Verdict for United States, and prisoners sent to jail to await sentence. The case of these men excited much interest in the court-room. They were residents of an unfrequented portion of the State, and could neither read nor write. They said that they never saw a newspaper; and one of them remarked that "he didn't know there was such a thing as the revenue laws." The case of Moss Brothers, of Clarksville, vs. The Southern Express Company, was partially heard yesterday, and continued until this morning. This is an action to recover damages for a lot of tobacco claimed to have been lost by the defendants in transitu from Clarksville to some point in Mississippi during the winter of 1864-'65. In a case set for January rules-Thomas U. Dudley, receiver, vs. The President, Directors, and Company, of the Monticello Bank-over 100 summonses have been issued, that being the number of defendants.
