THREE INJURED IN ACCIDENTS AT DEADWOOD Deadwood, -Special: Allan Coburn, 13, a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Coburn, Deadwood, suffered broken leg when he was struck by truck driven by Harry Trosin, Deadwood, as young Coburn with a couple of other high school lads alighted from a car and started to cross the street to the high school. Everett Totem, Lead, Homestake Mining employe, suffered two broken legs and injuries to his eyes in an explosion in the excavating of ground for new mill which is being built by the company. Leslie Potter suffered a broken arm and broken pelvis in the same accident. The men operating & leverage machine to remove rock loosened by previous explosions, when they encountered a small stick of dynamite which had missed fire in the previous day's blasting. MAN DIES OF INJURIES RECEIVED IN HOME ACCIDENT Britton, S. D.-Special: Rushed to Britton hospital immediately after sustaining a multiple fracture of the lower jaw and other injuries, and suffering of the brain as the result of an accident at his home, Nels Gulleson, 58, of Rutland, N. D., succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Gulleson was of a mechanical turn of mind and had rigged up lathe in his home. It was while working at the lathe that the accident occurred which caused his death. The pulley broke while revolving at high speed and the fragments struck him on the lower jaw. The widow now is patient in the hospital here in which her husband died. PLANKINTON STUDENT IS NEW EDITOR OF PAPER Vermillion, S. D.-Special: Craig Shouse, Plankinton, a senior in the arts college at University of South Dakota, been chosen to edit the Volante, student weekly newspaper, for the coming semester. Mr. Shouse served as assistant editor of the paper during the last semester. Previously he worked as reporter. He is a member of the Dakotans, senior men's honorary organization, and of the men's rifle team and assistant manager of the student union building. Clarence Nash, Sioux City, will continue his services as business manager. FALL RIVER COUNTY FARM BUREAU ELECTS Hot Springs, S. D.-Special: H. B. Test, Frederick, president of the South Dakota Farm Bureau federation, urged farmers to stronger organization at speech before the Fall River County Farm bureau in its annual meeting. At annual meeting Claude Barr, Smithwick, was elected president for the third year; W. F. Wyatt, Lithia, vice president; Floyd Trumbull, Hot Springs, secretary-t urer, and the following directors: T. B. Miller, Buffalo Gap; I. L. Barkley. Ardmore; B. M. West, Oelrichs, and Leslie G. Buss, Edgemont. PETITIONS FOR ELIMINATING SUPERVISORS CIRCULATED Plankinton, S. D.-Special: Petitions designed to help cut the Aurora county tax burden by the elimination of two county now are being circulated about the county. The petitions call for a consolidation of the commissioner districts into three instead of five as at pres- In order to bring the consolidation question to vote at the next election, signatures of about 800 voters, or 20 per cent of the persons casting ballots at the last election, will be required. MORE LOBBYISTS ARE REGISTERED AT PIERRE Pierre, S. D.-(P)-The list of legislative lobbyists registered at Pierre is gradually growing larger as final weeks of the session bring action on important issues. New lobbyists listed In the secretary of state's office include A. T. Roos, Deadwood, Black Hills Mining and Industrial association; George B. Grant, Custer, Maywood Chemical works; Burkholder, Sioux Falls, State Osteopathic association, and H. F. Borneman, Sioux Falls, South Dakota Brotherhood of Threshermen. Leg Broken; Drives Truck Wakonda. S. D.-Special: With the main bone in one of his legs nearly broken in two, Harvey Nelson, Wakonda, trucked load of hogs to Sioux Falls and drove the truck back to Wakonda without realizing how badly his leg was hurt. He twisted the leg while loading the hogs prior to making the trip. On returning home he found the leg bothering him so much he consulted a physician, who discovered the extent of the injury. Volga Hospital Elects Volga, S. Special: The board of directors of the Volga hospital met and elected the following officers: Dr. D. L. president; Dr. H. K. Hopkins, of Arlington, vice president; Charles E. Lee, secretarytreasurer; A. H. Norvold and Robert Henry, committee; John Lee and J. C. Hammer, building committee. Plankinton Bank Suspended Plankinton, S. D.-Special: Business of the Case and Lathrop State bank here was suspended Saturday, and the affairs taken over by the department of banking and finance at Pierre. The bank, one of Plankinton's old business institutions, several weeks ago temporarily suspended business while effecting a reorganization. Oppose Gross Income Tax Madison, S. D.-Special: The Lake County Farmers went on record as opposing the proposed sales tax and gross tax levy plans. They declared that the net income tax is the only just proposal submitted as substitute for the present system of taxation. Edward Welch is the president of the union. Sheep Thief Sentenced Belle Fourche, S. D.-Special: J. J. Archuleta is out of the sheep business for all time. He told officers that in circuit court here. Charged with the larceny of three sheep, Archuleta, Mexican beet worker, was sentenced 'to three years in the state penitentiary by Circuit Judge James McNenny. Oppose Severance Tax Deadwood, S. D.-Special: A resolution opposing the enactment of the proposed severance tax by the state legislature was unanimously adopted at a meeting of the Lawrence county farm bureau, held at Spearfish. Eighty members attended. Prepared to Pay Debt Brookings, S. D.-Special: The city of Brookings has set aside sufficient funds to take care of $48,000 in bonded debt, when it comes due. The city auditor's report shows $69,467 cash in the treasury, $16,622 due from consumers for December bills and only $8,617 in accounts payable. Redfield Firm Incorporates Pierre, S. D.-(P)-Articles of incorporation have been filed with the secretary of state for the Redfield Implement company, of Redfield, capitalized at $25,000. The incorporators are C. H. McCrossen, Ashton; Don Ruhlman, Tulare, and C. D. Ruhlman, Redfield. Fills Vacancy on Board Estelline, S. D.-Special: Michael Wilkins has been appointed member of the Estelline board of education to fill a vacancy caused by the recent resignation of E. F. Hoffelt, who had served for a considerable length of time. Loses Life in Caveln Britton, S. D.-Special: Albert Vig. of Veblen, nephew of Tom Vig, this city, lost his life as the result of a cavein at the Marble Gulch gravel pit, some miles from Britton, where he was employed with other men. He was about 50 years old. Deputy Escapes Injury Geddes, S. D.-Special: Deputy Sheriff Nels Holmquist fortunately escaped injury when his automobile collided with truck driven by Will Minahan on highway No. 50, southeast of town. Both automobile and truck were demolished. Gets State Secretary Job Pierre, S. D.-(P)-Olive Tollefson, of Elk Point, has replaced S. A. Moxness, of Webster, as secretary of the division of taxation in the state finance department. Miss Tollefson is a former Union county auditor. Armour Firemen Elect Armour, S. D.-Special: At the firemen's meeting the following officers were elected: Maurice Buist, chief; O. M. Hughes, assistant chief; Julian Rokke, treasurer, and William Lester, secretary. Gets $2,500 for Relief Brookings, D.-Special: Brookings county an additional $2,500 from the Reconstruction Finance corporations funds. This makes total of $7,500 the county has received for relief work.
