The locomotive has come up on the Northern Central Railway as far as Fisher's Ferry, six miles below Sunbury. The track layers are progressing at the rate of half a mile a day, at which rate, if the weather permits, the track will be completed in about ten days. A correspondent of the Miners' Journal recommends Benjamin Haywood, of Pottsville, as the Opposition candidate for Congress in the 11th District, at the next election. There are several gentlemen spoken of on the Democratic side, among whom Col. Srraub stands prominent. New SCHEDULE.-Under the new schedule, to be run on the Northern Central road, a lightning train will leave Baltimore at 7 A. M., and arrive at Sunbury at 111 A. M., 138 miles in 41 hours The train makes but few stops, and will connect with the train from New York at Elmira, at about 5 P. M. An attempt was made to break the Shamokin Bank by the presentation at its counter of some $27,000 of its paper for payment. This amount heavy as it was, was promptly paid. A partially successful attempt to cut the Boom at Lock Haven by a party of men hailing from Williamsport. A horse belonging to Samuel Guntrum, about three miles above Muney, was stolen one night last week. The time for the Encampment at Williamsport has been changed to the 7th of September. PRES.BUCHANAN has sent out vessels in search of the Styr: Lord NAPIER sent a special messenger to the British Admiral and advises him to stop these proceedings: and we advise all in scarch of a plate of good Ice Cream to stop at HEINER'S they'll surely find it, $9.21 door west of the Post Office. IT ILLOWAY'S PILLS-NEW FACTS Within the last few months many cures of surpassing interest and of the most marvellous character, haye been accomplished by this all potent remedy. We can say on unquestionable authority, that new forms and complications of disease, which had baffled every effort of the faculty, have been subdued by the Pills with the greatest facility. Billous complaints, combined with affections of the lungs and terrible enfeebleness of the whole system, have been among the cases which have yielded most readily to their action. They seem to be specially adapted to the cure of those disord of the stomach, liver, and bowels most prevaten in this country.

A store was broken into in New Bloomfied, Perry county, last week, and the safe taken away into a field, where it was blown up with gunpowder. About $300 were found in the safe by the scamps, of which $100 belonged to the Insurance Company. The Chicago organ of Senator Douglas says the Buchanan party of Illinois is made up of a "set of rogues, cheats and swindlers_combined." Complimentary : We are sorry to learn that a small child of Wm. Follmer, Esq, of Turbut township, was drowned in the mill-race, near his residence, on Tuesday last. The child was running around in the yard, and fell into the race unnoticed. When rescued life was extinct. We sympathize with the parents in their affiction.-Miltonian.
