Description

Articles (Jan 16 and Feb 14, 1914) refer to William G. Pursell/Pursel as receiver of the People's Bank, Danville, and an auditor was appointed to audit the receiver's accounts. No article describes a run or temporary suspension explicitly; the presence of a receiver indicates the bank failed and was placed in receivership (permanent closure). OCR shows slight variation in receiver surname (Pursel/Pursell) — treated as the same person.

The action was brought in Uncle Sam's Court because the law provides that where a foreign subject is injured in the employ of a corporation of Pennsylvania, the injured one may have his choice of seeking redress in the Federal or county courts. The trial will likely be listed for May term. The damage claim is based upon the alleged negligence of the company in ordering Joseph, through one of the shifting foremen, to unlock a gondola car about June 16, 1913. The door refused to budge and Joseph and a company were beneath, prying at the reluctant bolt, when another draught bumped into the car. Vrcek's left hand was so badly crushed as to make it useless. Only the thumb dangles from the wrist. Auditor For Danville Bank.-President Judge Kunkel to-day appointed William J. Baldy, Danville, to audit the accounts of William G.
