DUE TO JOKE. Run on Bank Caused by Remark of a Young Man. A joke, with Texas Independence day as a basis, caused a run on the Lumbermen's National bank of Hous ton on Monday which for a time as sumed serious proportions. Adoption of a resolution by the Clearing House association and full explanation restored confidence. Jokingly. a young man on Friday remarked that the Lumbermen's National bank would not open on Saturday, It didn't. Neither did any other bank in the state. It was Texas Independence day. Story gained currency aud on Monday an unmistakable run startrd. Bank remaiued open until 5 o'clock Monday afternoon, and at the close of business the deposits were $177,000 more than withdrawals
