RUN ON KENTON BANK SERIOUS Columbus, O., Nov. 6. The state department of banking today announced the Kenton Savings Bank & Trust Company at Kenton had closed its doors and that the banking department is investigating the institution's condition. The bank was closed. it was said, after a serious run which apparently got beyond control. No reason for the run was learned here. Supt. Blair, Charles G. Saffin. Jr. attorney for the department. and C. W. Miller. liquidating agent. have gone to Kenton to investigate The bank was one of the largest in that section. It was capitalized at $150.000 and had a surplus of $100,000. Its resources were listed at $1,750,000 and its deposits at $1,250.000. W. A. Norton is president and C. L. Merriman. cashier. DESPONDENT OVER QUARREL WITH GIRL Kenton o Nov 6 - Doors of the Kenton Savings Bank and Trust Company, did not open for business today for the first time since it was instituted 50 years ago. While the bank remained closed state supuertendent of banks, Blair and state examiners went over the books at the request of bank President W. A. Norton. The bank remained closed today after a heavy run by customers that began yesterday about noon. Three weeks ago the doors of the Mt. Victory bank also of Hardin County were closed by the state banking department, at the request of President H., E. Dickinson. Frozen assets were given at the cause of the banks closing. Chicago-Billy Showers, St. Paul middleweight, who was carried from the ring unconscious last night after being knooked out by Shuffle Callahan, was reported resting comfortably at a hospital here today. Showers' improved condition fostered the hope of friends that no serious consequences would result from the terrible beating he received. St. Louis, Roy C. Toombs, former president of the International life insurance company, is expected to surrender here today on a warrant charging him with grand largeny, circuit attorney Howard C. Sidener announced. The warrant for Toombs arrest was issued after the collapse of the life insurance company when it was learned that $3,500,000 was missing from the company's vaults. Blair, state superintendent of banks. The report of state examiners was presented and discussed and plan for re-opening the bank was suggested by the superintendent. A meeting of stocksolders is to be held at an early date for considering this plan. KENTON BANK IS REORGANIZED; TO OPEN THURSDAY KENTON, Feb. 23-The Kenton Savings Bank and Trust company is to re-open here on Feb. 28. The stockholders met last night at the bank and elected a new board of directors which in turn, elected Addison C. Johnson, of Kenton, president; Williard R. Bixler, of Kenton, vice president; and H. H. Shanks, former deputy banking commissioner of Kentucky, cashier. The organization, it was stated, has met all the requirements of the Ohio of banks by removing from its assets all doubtful and bad notes and all farm lands. The bank temporarily suspended on Nov. 6, 1928 and the reorganiza tion of the institution is regarded as one of the most important finan cial deals in the history of the city. The officers of the bank in statement issued today said that the bank when re-opened will continue to function as if business had not been suspended. Deposits are pay. able dollar for dollar, it was said. All persons who have placed their money with the bank on interest will be paid all interest due on their accounts as if the bank had not suspended business. The checks for Christmas savings will be mailed to the customers on the day before the bank opens.
