A RUN ON A NEW HAVEN SAVINGS BANK. During the latter part of last week a rumor was circulated in the city to the effact that the Townsend's Savings Bank, a well established bank in the city, had become embarrassed and was about to suspend. By Saturday afternoon the rumor had gained a wide circulation, and yesterday morning the effect of it was to send a large number of working men and servant girls to the bank at an early hour. The bank, which is in the best condition, immediately placarded a notice that it would remai n open till sundown to "receive and pay deposits." Notwithstanding this reassuring notice many of the poorer depositors called for their money and received 11. Fathers O'Brien and Hart called at the bank and assured many of their parisbioners of the sound condition of the bank and deterred many from taking out their deposits. Others could not be persuaded. The bank remained open until sundown and paid all who called for their funds. During the day Mr. Townsend, the president, received numerous offers of assistance, all of which ne declined. The source of the rumor is unknown as well as its cause.
