ATCHISON BANKS-During the money panic, the Atchison banks have steadily refused to suspend, while the banks of neighboring cities have closed their doors. This brings up a question that we have been heretofore tempted to speak of. In the course of our business, we have frequently received drafts on Atchison banks, in sums of $2 to (20. We have applied to bankers in Troy and in other places in Northern Kaneas to get them cashed, but in every case a shave of 25 cents was demanded. The reason always given was, that they had no business connection with the Atchison banks, and it would cost 25 cents to make the collection. Now, our opinion is, that they had better form business connections with the Atchison banks at once. They were always ready to cash drafts on St. Joseph, without any discount; yet the St. Joseph banks all suspended, and went back on them, while the Atchiscu banks, with which they did not condescend to do business, kept open.
