Douglas & Thompson, stock and money brokers, 52 South C street, Virginia, are most active during these days of stock excitement waiting on their friends and filling orders, etc. They buy and sell on commission only and carry on margins, dealing most liberally with their customers. POLITICS is all the rage now outside of stock speculations, and appears to hold even that raging element pretty nearly level among some. The pot is fairly boiling now, and will simmer till No. vember. FROM the fact that the Democrats of Storey county have their primaries on the same day that the miners hold their do picnic it may be surmised that they not care much for that element of our people. A LADY living on the Divide was thrown from a horse last night about 10 o'clock, on South O street, Virginia, and considerably bruised and stunned. She was taken into Cole's drug store, where she received such medical attention as was required, when she was placed in a buggy and taken home. SPECIAL NOTICE.-L. E. Sawyer has a special notice of general interest in another column, and all who want lumber and building material will please read it. He has a word to say, too, about accounts which some will do well to read. In running over the table of net proceeds of the mines it will be seen that the amount of tax is unequal, This is because in the city of Virginia the tax levy is $3.55 and outside of the city in the county the levy is $2.55. POSTPONED.-The sale of delinquent stock of the South Comstock has been postponed until August 19th. See official notice in another column. BRIEF MENTION. The Virginia Savings Bank will resume. Manager Byrne states that his managerial appetite has been satiated. To-day is the shortest of the year and a good day for the shorts to fill. There will be a dress rehearsal of the Kindergarten school at the Theater Hall on Monday evening next commencing at 5:30 o'clock. None but children and their parents admitted. When a rich man is crippled by a stock panic, the papers announce that he is "embarrassed by the decline in values." When a poor devil with $500 goes to the wall he is "cinched by the break." Fox has taken a heavy line of goods down from the loft of his store and placed them on exhibition in the place formerly occupied by Foster, the druggist. This saves patrons a walk up stairs. The Grand Jury of Storey County havegiven the county affairs a thorough overhanling, and some of the officials are raked over the coals at a lively rate. In the midst of general remands for informalities, hoggishness of fee, incompentency and neglect of duty, they warmly endorse the official record of District Attorney Harris. He is a brother of C. N. Harris of this city.
