Business Troubles. POTTSVILLE, Pa., Feb. 26-A false rumor. started by nn unknown person, caused a run on the Union National bank of Mahonoy City today, but the depositsrs soon found out there was nothing in the report and stopped. BOSTON, Feb. 26,-A Journal special says the New Market Savings bank, of New Market, N. H., has suspended. The cause is unfortunate investments in real estate. The deposits are about $191,000. The bank will be closed up. DENVER, Feb. 26.-The Western Farm Mortgage Trust Company has filed its annual report in the district court. It shows a capital stock of $8,000,000, of which it is alleged two-filths was paid-in stock, being paid in by the surrender of an equal amount of stock in the Western Farm Mortgage Loan Company, of Lawrence, Kan., and the debts amount to $2,303,072. The deposits are about $191,000. The bank will be closed up. CONDENSED NEWS. Duluth, Minn., had a big blizzard on Saturday night. Twenty-one guns greeted President Harrison and party at Norfolk. The Trans-Mississippi congress wante New Mexico and Arizona admitted as states. A railroad war among the coal roads at Kingston, Pa., is creating some excitement. John P. Sutton has tendered his resignation as secretary of the Irish National league of America to President Gannon. The state department has asked for the extradition from Mexico of H. H. Wandell, a citizen of Texas, who is wanted in that state on charges of burglary. The firemen on the San Antonio & Aransas Pass railroad complain that they are being superseded by new men and another strike is among the possibilities. At Newport, Ark., a Mr. Swearingen married a Miss Brattley and took her home. On the following night some one shot and killed the bride while standing near a window. Gideon W. Marsh, the fugitive president of the defunct Philadelphia Keystone National bank, is in Buenos Ayres, where he is engaged in business and reported to be doing well. The indictment charging William M. Laflin, publisher of the New York Sun, with printing accounts of the four electrocutions at Sing Sing, N. Y., was dismissed on the recommendation of the district attorney. Jacob Barnhard started a saloon at North Grove, in Miami county, Ind., in spite of vigorous protests of the people. THE west-bound St. Louis express on the Pennsylvania road ran down a pleasure party at Hawkins Station. Penn., killing two persons and fatally injuring another. GOVERNOR ABBETT. of New Jersev, made a large number of appointments, including those of Henry C. Kelsey for a fifth term as Secretary of State, and John P. Stockton as Attorney-General. GEORGE D. KELLY, partner in some of the largestironworks in the Shenango Valley, shot thimself at Sharon, Penn., death resulting instantly. Kelly was wealthy, and leaves a large family. The cause of the deed is a mystery. GOVERNOR TUTTLE issued a proclamation setting forth the duty of the people of New Hampshire to take up the cause of Russian charity, and to contribute liberally of their means to aid in allaying the distress of the large class of starving Russians. NEW HAMPSHIRE NOTES. The New Market savings bank has suspended. The cause was unfortunate investments in real estate and on personal securities. The deposits are about $191,000. There will be large loss to the depositors. The bank will be closed. Frederick W. Wentworth, aged 21, teller of the Trust and Guaranty company of Portsmouth, is a defaulter in the sum of $2570. His bondsmen will make good the money, which was expended in fast living. Rev. J. H. Haines, a popular Methodist clergyman well known throughout the state, who has been for two years pastor of the church at Laconia, was on trial two days last week on the charge of falsehood, arising from a previous charge of kisslng one or more of the sisters of his church and other conduct unbecoming a clergyman. Mr. Haines was expelled from the conference. Many of the members of Mr. Haines's church think him innocent. The police at Laconia were notified of the arrest at Montreal of Robert H. Pope and wife, who are charged with stealing $3100 from the house of Jacob Moulton, a farmer residing at Sanbornton, a few miles from Laconia. The Popes have been enjoying high life in Canada for some time. The Laconia officer who went to Montreal to get the prisoners, returned without them, as the authorities there demanded the payment of $316 for arresting and keeping them. Pope says he found the money in an iron kettle in a stone wall in Sanbornton, near Moulton's residence. Moulton says that is where he secreted his money, among other places. Rev. Dr. Edward Robie has completed a 40-years' pastorate over the Congregational church at Greenland. This church is remarkable for ministerial permanency. It has had but seven ministers during the 186 years of its existence, the first two pastorates covering 97 years. Dr. Robie is in his 72d year, and no living New Hampshire clergyman has had so long a pastorate.
