Description

Articles (Oct 14, 1857) report that City Bank (Hartford) voted to suspend specie payments as part of a coordinated suspension by several Hartford banks during the 1857 financial crisis. No mention of depositor runs, receivership, or permanent closure in these excerpts. Reopening is not stated in the articles, but suspensions were contemporaneous with the 1857 panic and were typically temporary; I therefore classify this as a suspension (no run) and tentatively as suspension_reopening. Bank type is unclear from the name alone.
