TROUBLES OF BUSINESS MEN. TWO WESTERN BANKS CLOSE THEIR DOORSMERCANTILE EMBARRASSMENTS. Minneapolis, Jan. 15.-As soon as business hours had opened in banking circles this morning the announcement was made that the City Bank, at Third and Hennepin aves., had closed its doors. Among bankers and those in a position to know there was general credence given to the statement from the City Bank officials that the bank stood good for every cent of its deposits, and that it had been forced to suspend its business by the withdrawal of heavy deposits and inability to collect its notes. Bank Examiner Kenyon was in Minneapolis Monday and at that [time examined the condition of the bank. He then advised the officers not to suspend. as the bank was perfectly solvent, according to his statement, even if less than 75 per cent were collected on the paper It holds. However, the withdrawal of deposits, which has been going on for the last few days, left the bank powerless, and this morning it found itself forced to discontinue operations. It Is now in the hands of Mr. Kenyon, and his assistants, and an examination is being made. T. J. Buxton is president, A. H. Linton vice-president, and L. T. Buxton assistant cashier. The bank was organized in October, 1872. The capital is $300,000, and deposits December 13, 1895, were $500,000. No serious trouble is anticipated. Omaha, Neb., Jan. 15.-The Blue Springs State Bank was placed in the hands of the State Banking Board to-day. The capital stock is $18,000. Chicago, Jan. 15.-The Ketcham Lumber Company, one of the largest concerns in the lumber district, has filed an assignment in the county court. The resources are estimated at $500,000 and the obligations at $300,000. Thec reditors are mostly banks. W. A. Cartier, of Ludington, Mich., was the chief financial backer of the company. Dull business. demoralized prices and a desire of Mr. Cartier to close up the business are given as the causes of the assignment. W. P. Ketcham, president of the company, was formerly vice-president of the Committee on Grounds and Buildings of the World's Fair. Lexington, Ky., Jan. 15.-The schedule of liabilities and assets of the b.g triple failure of Leslie Combs, Daniels & Roberts, and A. Swigart, whose assignments were announced several weeks ago, was filed yesterday. It shows Combs's L'abilities at $252,875. while his assets are only $113,071. Indianapolis, Jan. 15.-An assignment was made yesterday by the Baker-Randolph Lithograph and Engraving Co., and C. E. Hollenbeck was appointed receiver. Liabilities, $45,000; assets, $75,000.
