MORE ST. LOUIS BANKS CLOSE. Heavy Withdrawals Force Action by Two Depositories. ST. LOUIS, Jan 13.-Two St Louis banks closed their doors this morning. The closing actions followed the shutting down of six other banks in St. Louis and suburbs in the last ten days. The two institutions which closed today were the St Louis National Bank and the West St. Louis Trust Company. notice on the door of the West St. Louis Trust Company stated that "due to heavy withdrawals the directors deem it advisable to close this bank temporarily in order to protect and safeguard the interests of deposiThe Savings Trust Company of St Louis. whose statement September 10 showed total deposits of $1,714,389 closed yesterday. Some of this group also spoke in favor of reorganization and there was no objection to the proposal. Savings Trust had capital, surplus and undivided profits of $287,821 and deposits of $1,714,390, as shown by a statement of Dec. 10. Total resources were given as $3,013,938, including $1,429,567 loans on real estate security and $555,583 loans on personal and collateral security. In the discussion of reorganization last night it was pointed out that time would be required to realize on the real estate loans, and that new capital would be required in the bank, which has been controlled by John J. Dowling, president. A petition, calling for reorganization and agreeing to leave deposits in the bank for a time, is being circulated among depositors by Sam Ritzer, motion picture theater operator, 445 De Baliviere avenue, a member of the committee. Ritzer said last night he had obtained more than 100 signatures and estimated that they represent deposits of $35,000. It is hoped to get several hundred signatures, representing large volume of depositors. The committee is an executive group of the Savings Trust Depositors' League, elected at mass meeting at Soldan High School Monday night as a result of complaints by parents of school children who have $85,000 of school savings in Savings Trust. None of the directors responded to a call at the meeting A. E. Moore, secretary of the bank, was present Adolph Weinstein, 4638 Lewis place, chairman of the Savings Trust Depositors' League, who was elected chairman of the committee, presented anonymous letters of complaint about the bank, which the committee disregarded. A subcommittee was chosen to discuss the school savings situation with Board of Education officials These deposits have the same status as other deposits. When Asher was taken before the Circuit Court at New Madrid, the Judge assessed his punishment at 50 years' imprisonment, but paroled him to his wife upon his good behavior.
