The Fowler Cycle Company, of Chicago, which employed 500 men have made an assignment. The liabilities are said to be close to $500,000. The National Bank of Asheville, North Carolina, has closed its doors. The State Supervisor of Building and Loan Associations has made application in the Circuit Court, at St. Louis, for appointment of receivers for the North St. Louis Building and Loan Association and the North End Building and Loan Association. It is alleged that John Cobert, late secretary of the two association, is short in his accounts. About 250 employes of F. A. Bachman's dress goods factory, Philadelphia, Pa., are on strike for an advance of 10 per cent. in wages. Brooklyn Grocery Co., Brooklyn, N. Y., has made an assignment. August F. Johnson, of Dayton, Tenu., dealers in men's furnishing goods, have made an assignment. The Simmons Company, bargain store, at Chicago, has had a chattel mortgage for $45,000 foreclosed. Daniel B. Gunn, of Red Oak, Iowa, glove manufacturer. has given chattel mortgages for $6900. Allison J. Potter, Rochester, N. Y., produce commission merchant, has made an assignment. Elmer J. There were 205 business failures reported throughout the United State last week. against 196 the previous week. Thomas B. Sapp, general job printer, Baltimore, Md., has been declared insolvent. Farmer J. Spencer, assignee of the People's Savings Bank, of Denver, Colorado, began suit on Saturday against the People's National Bank, asking that the directors, officers and stockholders be held liable for all the indebtedness of the savings bank, and that both banks be liquidated and closed as one institution and not separately. The Noyes Lumber Company, one of the leading companies at West Superior, Wisconsin, went into a receiver's hands on Saturday, as a result of a disagreement between members of the firm. Several builders and contractors in Baltimore, Md., asked for receivers this week. The sheriff has received an attachment against James C. Scott & Co., of Brockton, Mass. Frederick S. Smith, Middleboro, Mass., has made an assignment. A receiver has been appointed for the Dalton Grocery Co. of Dalton, Georgia. H. C. Thompson, grocer and meat market, at Atlanta, Georgia, has given a chattel mortgage. Annie Kunnes, dealer in dry goods, at Warrenton, Georgia, has had attachments and chattel mortgages entered against her. The employes of the Chicago and Southeastern Railway shops, in Lebanon, Indiana, have struck for their wages. The company is behind about eight months with their pay. All trains are delayed. The strikers seized a train and removed the throttle and gauges from the engine, disabling it. The trainmen are expected to join the strikers. A Brazil, Indiana, despatch says that the block coal miners have orders to quit work today (Saturday ) unless the operators decide to adopt the check-off system of dues for the United Mine Workers. The operators say they will not do this, as some of their men do not belong to the organization, and it would be unjust to take dues out of their pay. About 1000 coal miners in Boulder county, Colorado, are on strike because of a reduction of wages in one of the mines at Lafayette.
