Fire Buildings Etterville Crane's Store, Bank of Etterville Building, Building and Blacksmith Shop Consumed by Flames Wednesday Night; Loss Estimated About The principal business section the town of Etterville, on the Rock Island railroad, practically all destroyed by fire Friday night. The fire originated in the northeast corner of H. Crane's store and strong wind from the north carried the flames to the Balser Thomas blacksmith shop, the old Bank of Etterville buildand the M. hall, all four buildings except the Bank building being reduced to ashes. The walls of the bank building, which were constructed of concrete blocks, stand as skeleton the business row, the walls crumbling and tottering though ready to crash to the ground any moment. Mr. Crane had left his store about seven o'clock in the evenand was at the home of RichMiller, one mile east of Etterville, when Armand Haynes observed the glare of flames in the northeast corner of the store building. where the oil tanks and hardware were kept. The Short store building was constructed 1902 by Andrew and Gus Thomas, Etterville's first merchants. who established their business the time the Rock Island made Etterville station.
