MOFFATT IS DEAD Great Financier and Colorado Railroad Builder Died in New York at Noon Today DENVER, Mar. 18.-(2 p. m.)-The news has just received here from New York that David H. Moffatt died very suddenly shortly before noon today. He had been sick but that fact has been kept quiet. The First National bank, of which he was the president, had closed for the day when the news came. The report of the death of the great financier has caused great sensation in the city this afternoon. The death of David H. Moffat will be a severe blow to Colorado. Mr. Moffat was more closely linked with Colorado enterprises than any man in the state, standing ahead of all others in varied interests The history of Mr. Moffat, when compiled, will fill many pages. He came to Colorado in early manhood and was known as a newsboy and later engaged in the stationery and news stand business Later, in the early sixties, he entered the First National bank. filling an un important position, then advancing to that of bookkeeper, then step by step until he became the head of the fore most financial institution in the west While advancing in honorary positions his wealth increased correspondingly and his estate will run into the millions. Personally, and the bank, of which he was the head, controlled vast Denver enter prises, big business blocks, large interests in the tramway company, electric light and gas company, water company, etc. Some years ago Mr. Moffat conceived the idea of a through line to Salt Lake taking in the undeveloped resources of the

No Restrictions on Accounts in Denver Colo., March -Denver clearing house banks will reopen at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning on a clearing house tificate basis, they announced toClearing house certificates will be used as temporary substitute for currency. Unrestricted use of checking accounts will be permitted with all withdrawals paid in tificates, which will be accepted Denver the same as cash. No gold or gold certificates will be paid out and the payment of silver or currency will be restricted.
