TENNESSEE BANK CLOSED FOR PROBE CENTERVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 11.β€”The Citizens National bank here was closed today after a run by depositors. A bank examiner is investigating affairs of the institution. S. L. Whitson, cashier since it was organized eighteen years ago, is in a hospital after a sudden illness, the result, it was stated, of taking poison by mistake. It is reported that Liberty bonds, estimated at approximately $40,000, left with the bank by depositors for safe keeping, are missing. Cashier Whitson was arrested Friday night on a warrant sworn out by the district attorney. The bank's last statement showed deposits of $200,000.

RUN FORCES BANK TO CLOSE By the Associated Press. CENTERVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 11.β€”The Citizens' National Bank of this place closed today following a run on it by depositors. Sam L. Whitson, cashier of the bank, since it was organized 18 years ago, is in a Nashville hospital, following a sudden attack of illness, the result, it was given out at the time, of taking poison by mistake. It is reported that Liberty bonds estimated at approximately $40,000 left with the bank by depositors for safe keeping, are missing. Whitson was arrested in Nashville Friday night on a warrant sworn out by District Attorney A. V. McLane. He will have a preliminary hearing Oct. 20. The bank's last statement showed deposits of $200,000.

MILLARD NAMED BANK RECEIVER Centerville, Tenn., Nov. 11.β€”(Special.)β€”Sam T. Millard, national bank examiner, has been appointed receiver for the Citizens' National Bank, which closed its doors Oct. 11, following a run by depositors. Sam L. Whitson, cashier, who is in jail, has made no effort to secure release on bond, although a Nashville law firm has been employed to defend him. The shortage is estimated at between $60,000 and $70,000.
