NEWS NOTES. The Bank of Watson, Mo., has been placed in the hands of a receiver. William Heddie hanged himself in jail at Norton, Kan., after having been sentenced to 15 years for murder. The Standard Oil Co. is opening oil wells near Bronson, Kan., that were suddenly plugged by them a year ago. Representative Dockery, of Missouri, has introduced a bill to revise the federal statutes. There has been no revition since 1873. Mayor Allen, of Peoria, Ill., publicly snubbed a Y. M. C. A. committee that called upon him and requested a suppression of gambling. Ambroise Thomas, the director of the famous conservatory and composer of "Mignon" and "Hamlet," died in Paris on the 13th at the age of 85 years. An uprising occurred at Leone, capital of Corea. Seven officials were murdered and the king and queen sought shelter with the Russian legation. There is a cattle war in Meade and Comanche counties, Kan.. because stockmen persist in shipping Texas cattle there and herd them on land belonging to non-resident owners. The Mexican government is deporting American tramps under a clause in the constitution allowing the executive to send away pernicious foreigners. Tramps from the United States have become a nuisance. A telegram received at Pt. Petersburg from Irkutsk, Siberia. says a Siberian trader named Kouchnareff, has received information that Dr. Nansen has reached the north pole, has found land there and is now returning towards civilization. The Missouri state council, J. O. U. A. M., in session at Chillieothe, elected Rev. H. A. Slaughter, St. Joseph, state counselor; H. H. Hinde, Kansas City, vice counselor, and J. A.
