MINNESOTA IS YEARS Citizens Celebrate to Date It Entered the Union May 11 St. will 75 the book of time May when the day it entered the union sovereign state in swaddling clothes May 11, 1858. Then had population of souls abounded in timber, fur bearing animals, Indians and years, however, have wrought vast changes in the Gopher state. has population than 2,500,000 timber, from commercial standpoint, has vanished: number of fur bearing animals has been sadly pleted. Indians too have dwindled in number, what few remaining living on reservations. Iron though, remains, millions of Statewide celebrations will mark the observance by Minnesotans of the milestones by the state during the parade undreamed of then took changes place each succeeding decade. Gov. Floyd Olson issued urging all residents the state to join the observance durthe week of May 13 Minnesota Historical society, department of counhistorical and other agencies of the Murdo subdistrict of the Methodist Episcopal church was held here. Dinners were held both evenings. Speakers were Bishop Ralph MacGee, of the St. Paul area, and Dr. Nels Fanebust, superintendent of the Rapid district. Four State Banks to Close, Opened St. Paul, May of eleven state banks in Minnesota announced today by John state commissioner Peyton, banks. today were the Banks reopening of State Bank State Bank Edgerton, Farmers State Bank of Camden Park State Kanaranzi, of Lowry State Bank of Lowry; McGregor State Bank Farmers State Bank of McGregor; Raymond; First State Bank of Bank of Stewartville; Farmers Bank of Delavan: Farmers State and State Bank of Presthe Peoples State Bank of ton and Mazeppa.
