EDDY 1 Artesia Bank Closes Doors The First State Bank of Artesia closed its doors Wednesday, and the institution is now in the hands of the state bank examiner. Whatever funds were on deposit of Eddy county are amply protected by a surety bond of $15,000, such bond being required by law from every bank in which is deposited county funds. Many causes are assigned for the closing of the bank, and the cause and extent of the failure, if failure it is, will not be known for several days, or until the affairs of the bank are gone into by the examiner. The bank was capitalized at $15,000 and has been considered among the sound financial banks of the southwest. The failure of the First State bank is the second in the history of Eddy county-Carlsbad Argus.
