She Got the Cash. As soon as the financial trouble struck Troy, and it was necessary to take steps to protect the cash reserves of the banks, the First Bank of Troy issued a few hundred dollars of cashier's checks. One of these for $5 fell into the hands of a farmer's wife near Troy, Among the business men of Troy who began taking these cashier's checks was C. W. Tompson, who runs a saloon. Mr. Tompson posted a large sign in his window announcing he would pay $1.05 for cashier's checks. The lady saw the sign. She had a five dollar check. She stopped, read the sign over several times and then walking up to the saloon door knocked. Mr. Tompson opened the door. "I see that you are paying $1.05 for cashier's checks," said the lady, rather doubtingly. She was evidently doubtful. And with that she handed Mr. Tompson the five dollar check on the First Bank. Mr. Tompson had not
