HIS ACCOUNTS WERE SHORT, so HE FLED Valparaiso. Ind, July 14-The experts who have been examining the books of the Valparaiso Buildtng and Loan Association for the last five weeks completed their work yesterday, and found that Secretary S. Ross Martin was short in his accounts $3,626. He served as deputy postmaster during Cleveland's first Administration. and was reappointed under the present one, resigning the secretaryship upon going into the office. When pressed for a settlement with the association he fled, but was induced to return in a few days. At the time he left he was City Clerk and assistant superintendent and teacher in the Presbyterian Sundayschool. Eleven years ago he was cashier of the Jamestown Savings Bank, of Jamestown, Penn.. and through his peculations the bank was forced to suspend, and Martin fled to Canada, where he lived until he came here.
