TEXAS BANK CLOSED Assets Will Cover Liabilities Is Claim; Property Assigned. Richmond, Tex., March 24.-Assignment of all the property of the J. H. P. Davis & Company and all the property of the members of the firm except that exempt under the laws of Texas, was made to three trustees today following the suspension of business and examination of the bank's condition after the death of T. A. Wessendorf. vice-president of the institution last Wednesday. All persons in any way connected with the bank were absolved from any suggestion of irregularity in a statement issued by members of the firm today which gave the crop failures and the recent floods as the reason for the failure. Best authority places the amount involved at $1,000,000 and the assignments place approximately $1,500,000 at the disposal of the trustees for the purpose of liquidation This institution was one of the few remaining private banks in the state. It was established in 1892. No formal statement of the bank's condition, as to liabilities and assets could be made late today.
