SPARKS FROM MAINE WIRES To Wind Up Bank's Affairs. A minority of stockholders Thursday started proceedings to secure the appointment of a receiver for the Mousam River Trust Co., a banking institution which has been doing business in Sanford since 1912. Bank Commissioner Irving E. Vernon was present at a stockholders' meeting there Thursday afternoon when the matter of winding up the bank's affairs was discussed.

RECEIVER FOR MOUSAM RIVER TRUST CO. TO BE APPOINTED THURSDAY Saco, Me., May 25.-A receiver for the Mousam River Trust Co. at Sanford will be appointed on Thursday by the Supreme court. Associate Justice George F. Haley decided this action is necessary after listening to petitions, filed today, by the state bank commassioner. Irving E. Vernon, and by counsel for some of the minority stockholders. He decided to act upon Commissioner Vernon's petition. The bank is closed. The trust company was organized two years ago under the state banking laws with $75,000 capital stock. The deposits, made mostly by mill operatives. aggregate about $35,000. The face value of the assets is said to be in excess of $100,000. George W. Hanson. a former judge of the Sanford municipal court, is president.

St. Ann's parish of Dexter held exercises in honor of its patron saint Sunday afternoon. The feature of the observance was a parade of 800 persons. The parade, headed by the American flag and a band, passed through the principal streets of the village. In line were the members of St. John the Baptist Society, Knights of the Maccabees, Ladies' Altar Society, Children of Mary, the Holy Name Society and members of the Sunday School. Following the parade several addresses were delivered at the church. Arthur W. Beale, receiver at the Mousam River Trust Company, has served an attachment through Deputy Sheriff George F. Wiggin, on all of the fixtures of the Springvale Spinning Company at Sanford. Through the deputy sheriff he has also foreclosed a mortgage which was given September 24th, 1914, by the Springvale Spinning Cmpany to the Mousam River Trust Company of Sanford on a lot of land, all buildings, tools, machinery and machinery supplies and water privilege. The total amount of property and fixtures attached is about $40,000. CASHIER MAINE BANK RETURNS TO ANSWER TO COURT CHARGE Alfred, Maine, Oct. 4.-Charles H. Hanson, treasurer of the Mousam River Trust Co., at Sanford, which was closed three months ago and for which receivers were appointed, was arraigned before Chief Justice A. R. Savage in the Supreme court late today. His case was continued until the January term of court and he was released until the January term of court under $1000 bail. The indictment under which he was arrested was not read and he was not required to plead at this time. It was understood that an officer was sent to Boston last week with a capias writ, but it was found that he could not be arrested there on the charge for which he was indicted. which was said to be in connection with the bank's affairs. Mr. Hanson agreed to return to Maine when summoned, it was said. and the court proceedings today were the result of this agreement. The liabilities of the company were placed at more than $250.000 when voluntary petitions in bankruptcy were filed in the United States court at Portland on June 29.

OLD HOME OF MOUSAM RIVER TRUST COMPANY IN SANFORD IS SOLD Sanford, Oct. 15.-The largest real estate deal that has taken place in Sanford for a long time is the purchase of the Hanson & Witham block, the old home of the Mousam River Trust Company, at the corner of Washington and Mechanic streets, Sanford. The purchasers are: John D. Weymouth, George R. Bowley, Charles S. Dyer, George A. Brearey and William Craughwell, all of Sanford. The bids were as follows: Simeon H. Watson, Orin D. Clark and Carl D. Libby offered through the receiver, Arthur W. Beal, of the Trust Company, the sum of $15,500, and the above mentioned purchasers offered the sum of $16,000. There was a hearing before Judge George F. Haley of the Supreme court at Biddeford on Monday, Oct. 11. where the parties interested were heard. The receiver was represented by Lucius B. Swett of Sanford and the news owners of the building were represented by Edward A. Hudon, a Sanford attorney. Thursday. Oct. 14. Judge Haley issued a decree authorizing the receiver to sell the Hanson & Witham block to John D. Weymouth, George R. Bowley, Charles S. Dyer, George A. Brearey and William Craughwell, who were the highest bidders.

Haley of the supreme court had on Saturday filed a decree denying the petition of Simeor H. Watson, Orrin D. Clark and Carl D. Libby to reopen bids upon the mousam River Trust Co. building, a sale of which was authorized by Justice Haley Oct. 14. It was contended by the petitioners that they had secured a verbal pledge from Receiver Arthur Beal to sell them the block for $15,500. The sale price author-ized by the court was $16,000. The new owners, John D. Weymouth, George R. Bowley, George A. Breary, Willia:a Craughwell and Charles S. Dyer, received a deed of the property Monday. The petitioners were represented, by County Attorney Hiram Willard and the new owners by Edward J. Hudon of Sanford.
