Grand Jury After Gossips The Scott county grand jury today was said to be investigating reports circulated on Wednesday which led to a "run" on the First State Bank of Illmo at Illmo, and which resulted in the withdrawal of several of the smaller deposits. Several witnesses, who heard the reports, were subpoenaed at Illmo today and were to appear before the investigating body this afternoon. The "run" on the bank which, according to Cashier John Craig, was started Wednesday afternoon and continued during the forenoon today. However, money was furnished to every depositor who desired to withdraw his account and by noon today some of the accounts had been reopened. The law provides a severe punishment for any person found guilty of spreading an untrue rumor about the condition of any bank. In this case it is said that the bank had sufficient money to pay off each account in the bank, had it been called upon to do so.β€”Cape Missourian.
