LOCAL BANK NOW MEMBER OF FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION On the morning of January The Citizens Bank of this city received the following telegram: "Membership in the Temporary Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation approved. Certificate of Membership in the mail." Every citizen of Appleton City should be proud to read this article. With all the bank troubles that have happened in the surrounding towns, there has never been a time when of patrons banks in this city could not draw every cent they had on deposit when they desired. A few years ago when the banking trouble first started, the officials of our banks at that time, took extra precaution to protect their depositors and merged the assets of their banks into what is now the Citizens Bank. In other words they cleaned for what they up thought and what proved to be, trying time for banks. During the trying days of last March when banks over the state were asked to close as a protective measure against runs, the Citizens Bank remained open and paid every check that was presented until the President's order came out that ALL banks close for the moratorium. After the opening order came this bank opened wide and told their depositors their money was ready if they wished it. But instead of withdrawals, outside money began to come in. Business increased steadily and now they have one of the most substantial institutions in the counbesides having patrons not only over the immediate vicinity but all over the Universe. Among those who are depositors at the bank now are residents of ten states other than Missouri, and one depositor is in Paris, France, and makes his regular deposits by mail. To any community a good bank is its greatest asset. To the people of this community who can boast that a depositor never lost a cent in an Appleton City bank, it has more of meaning than one can imagine. Now that the bank is good enough that Uncle Sam says he will guarantee the deposits up to $2500 for one individual, any let us bring in the cash that is hid away in the old sock or the garbage can and put it where some one will derive some benefit from it. Let us quit the postal savings habit and put our money in the bank to swell the credit of our community. Let us not be guilty of having to go to the bank and ask for an accomodation for a few days until our funds can be gotten out of the postoffice. Let us all give three cheers for the Citizens Bank where we have kept the faith and have been rewarded with the satisfaction that we were not mistaken when we stayed with them in the days when everything looked dark, but that now the light is burning for better times.
