Philadelphia, Dec. 24.-August Schwabb today shot his one-year-old daughter and killed himself. The child is expected to recover. Schwabb's wife died recently, and since her death he has been despondent. Washington, Dec. 24.-The resignation of Cadet Buckner F. Scott, United States Military Academy, has been accepted by the President. Hamilton, Bermuda, Dec. 24.-The British steamer Raphael, Capt. Graham, from St. Lucia, Dec. 18, arrived here today with laborers for the dock yards. Washington, Dec. 24.-The navy department today received a cablegram announcing the arrival at Woo Sung, China, of Rear Admiral Kempff aboard his flagship Kentucky. Philadelphia, Pa., Dec. 24.-David W. Sellers, a prominent lawyer, died at his home in this city today. He was president of the Fairmount Park Commission and a solicitor for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company at the time of his death. Dunlow, W. Va., Dec. 24.-Fire broke out in the post office building last night and destroyed almost the entire business portion of the town. Kokomo, Ind., Dec. 24.-By a gas explosion at the plate glass factory here today, Zachariah Chapman was killed and several other workmen were injured. Chicago, Dec. 24. - Judge Tuley announced today that his decision in the suit for the appointment of a receiver for the Zion Lace Industries would not be handed down until after his return from his holiday vacation. Boston, Dec. 24.-The stockholders of the National Bank of the Commonwealth today voted to place the bank in voluntary liquidation. William A. Tower and R. M. Saltonstall were appointed liquidating agents. The bank has been merged into the National Shawmut Bank. Boston, Dec. 24.-Messrs. Lee, Higginson & Co. have organized a new trust company, which will be known as the City Trust Company. It will have a capital of $1,000,000 and a paid cash surplus of $1,000,000. It will be opened for business on Feb. 1. Akron, O., Dec. 24.-Andrew Carnegie has offered the city of Akron $75,000 for a free public library, the city to guarantee $7000 annually to maintain it. The offer will probably be accepted. Providence. R. I., Dec. 24.-At the office of the Nicholson File Company (American Works) it was announced today that the plant located at Central Falls was to be discontinued and the machinery removed to Anderson, Ind. New Haven, Ct., Dec. 24.-The Dayville Woolen Company of Danielson, Ct., was today adjudicated bankrupt by Judge Townsend in the United States Court. A petition was filed recently with liabilities amounting to $390,000. Toledo, O., Dec. 24.-While a fire truck was responding to an alarm early today, it collided with a street car. resulting in the death of Capt. J. B. Ward of the fire company and injury of the driver, Peter Boudrie, and Ladderman John Schultz. New York, Dec. 24.-District Attorney E. A. Philbin, who will retire from office on Jan. 1, was given a loving cup today by the members of his professional staff. London, Dec. 24.-The Gazette this evening announces that the leves at St. James Palace and the drawing rooms at Buckingham Palace will hereafter be held during evenings. The Victorian regulations are otherwise unchanged. New York, Dec. 24.-Henry H. Frary, a broker of 50 Broadway, made an assignment today to Robert P. Orr. Frary's liabilities are about $15,000. He dealt in curb securities, and was not a member of any exchange. Phoenix, Ariz., Dec. 24. Clarence H. King, widely known as a mining expert and engineer, died here today of pulmonary trouble, aged 58. King was assoclated with the organization of the United States geographical survey, and contributed more literature on the Grand Canyon of Colorado than any other scientist. New York, Dec. 24.-At the Roosevelt Hospital it was said tonight that the condition of Mrs. Frank Leslie was unchanged. Owatonna, Minn., Dec. 24.-Rev. Murray Wilder Dewart, a son of Rev. J. H. Dewart, a former Owatonna pastor, has been elected pastor of St. James' Episcopal Church at Roxbury, Mass. Mr. Dewart is 27 years of age and a graduate of the state university. Syracuse, N. Y., Dec. 24.-Mrs. Sarah Vose Tracy, mother of Col. O. V. Tracy and Attorney W. G. Tracy of this city, died this morning, aged 97 yrs. She was born in North Andover, Mass., and came
