Miss Clara Harback, of Osborne, is visiting Miss Maggie Campbell. The President has appointed Thursday, Nov. 27th, as Thanksgiving Day. Over $500 clear of all expenses, was the result of the Catholic Fair at Brookville. People have become tired of asking and answering the question: "What is the news?" Mr. A. C. Wait started last Monday evening for a month's visit in Ohio and Indiana. Messrs. Garver and Hole, in their late hunt to the McPherson lakes, killed 70 ducks. The Cadet Band realized a profit from the Louie Lord entertainments of about $35.00. Prof. Purdie, the organist, now located at Lindsborg, talks some of removing to Salina. Capt. H. Ober, of Galva, Ill., has been making a short visit here-the guest of his brother, E. W. The ladies of Salina give a Leap-year party at the Opera House, Thursday evening, November 20. The fall term of the District Court convenes next Monday. There are about 75 cases on the docket. Judge Hinds will hold his first term of court in Saline county next February. It will be a law term. Mr. E. W. Blair has been appointed receiver of the Solomon Valley Bank, Solomon City, which recently failed. Miss Amy Berks, of Alburquerque, N. M., has arrived in Salina for a three week's visit with her relatives. Mr. Faulkner was instructed by a large majority to vote against the resubmission of the Prohibition question. The journeys of our citizens to the McPherson lakes are frequent. They do not fail to return with numerous ducks. Mrs. Rev. Kissell, of Salina, was in the city last week, visiting her sisters, Mrs. Royer and Miss Fry.-Abilene Gazette. The campfire announced to have been given on Nov. 1st by Bald Hill Post was unavoidably postponed indefinitely. Councilman Dickinson resigns his office next month, to enter upon the duties of his new office, county commissioner. The past week has been a season of unrest, anxiety, nervousness-all on account of the uncertainty of the Presidential election. Mr. John Cartwright has located in Emporia. He is a fine young gentleman, and we wish him much prosperity in his new location. Butler received 65 votes in Saline county, and St. John 33. Belva was not even honored with a vote. She had no electoral ticket in Kansas. Last Saturday Rev. A. J. Kissell at his residence united in marriage, Mr. John H. Vidriksen ahd Miss Mette M. S. Rasmessen, all of Saline Co. Mr. J. W. Rice started for New Mexico Tuesday, to be gone several weeks on cattle business. Mrs. Rice meanwhile, will remain at Adams' Ill. It is very unfortunate that the Park appropriation was beaten. We are afraid it kills the scheme of making Oak Dale Park the Bismarck of Kansas. Mr. Clair M. Patee, of the Manhattan Mercury-and one time foreman of the JOURNAL office-was married last week to Miss Lizzie Allen, of North Lawrence. A fine show case for canes is one of the new attractions at D. & J. B. Whitehead's, and there are several elegant gold canes therein to be presented to somebody. One Democrat-certain of the election of Cleveland-says: "It is good news; but we would willingly swap Cleveland for Glick and the Democratic county ticket" Messrs. Stolper & Tilgner have purchased Dwiggins & Co.'s meat market (the old Shute stand). Messrs. Dwiggins will continue in the business of buying and selling live stock. Mrs. Mary E. Brooking, mother of Mrs. J. H. Hardison, died at the home of her daughter, south of town, at the age of 63 years, last Sunday morning. Her funeral occurred on Monday. Maud, daughter of Capt. J. G. Mohler, died of diptheria yesterday, after a long illness, at the age of 4 years. The funeral occurs to-day. Captain and Mrs. Mohler have the sympathies of many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilkeson arrived in Salina last Monday, and are guests of Judge Carroll. They will remain in town about a month, and then return to their home on Long Island, N. Y.
