Description

All articles refer to the New Orleans Banking Association being in the hands of a receiver (N. W. Casey), with suits, judgments, and dividend payments to creditors — i.e., the bank failed and is being wound up. There is no mention of a depositor run or of a temporary suspension followed by reopening. Article 9 explicitly calls it a 'national bank.' I classify this as a suspension leading to permanent closure (receivership). Dates are taken from newspaper publication dates and article datelines; no explicit suspension/run is described in the texts provided.

THE COURTS. -Superior Criminal Cours. PLEAD GUILTY. Carrying concealed weapons-Billy Wilson, sentenced to $10 or ten days Parish Prison. HABEAS CORPUS. State ex rel. Billy Wilson vs. Criminal Sheriff et als.-Relator was committed as a dangerous and suspicious character. Writ made absolute and relator discharged. State ex rel. James Miller et als. VB, the Criminal Sheriff-Relator and eight others were committed for treason by Judge Miltenberger without bail. They ask relief, and their counsel, John E. Staes, alleges that E. Miltenberger has usurped his office by force of arms, and is not the judge of the Second Municipal Court. The commitment fails to state where the treason has been committed or upon whose oath they are held. Their commitment is in violation of United States and State constitution, because bail was refused. The action of Miltenberger is a gross violation of the status quo. They had, under the status quo, a perfect righttoform them selves into a militia, as long as they did not disturb the peace. There was no treason, they having leyied no war against the State, adhered to its eneor remies, Judge given Whitaker them issued aid or the comfort. writ, turnable this morning at half-past 9 o'clock.
