THE No Run Excited Depositors, Nor Heavy Withdrawals, But Steady Decline of Deposits Well, Ord has its bank failure. Tuesday morning the State Bank of Ord posted notice on its door that the bank was in charge of the State Banking Board. Luckily there run the bank and the public had intimation that such was contemplated by the The decision of the directors of the bank to close was reached Monday, not from any special withdrawals, but by the slow decline in deposits, which have been pretty low for many months. Realizing the futility of continuing under existing circumstances the officers of the bank felt that they should protect the depositors by closrather than risk the possibility of run. The step, though hard one take, was the honorable thing to do, no doubt. The backers of the bank are men of good standing and strong financially, so that the bank may reorganize and on after while, but there go certainty of that. no The officers of the bank Meese, president, H. Jackman, John Allen, cashier and Jos. M. Kokes, asst. cashier. Naturally this failure calls attention to the other banks of Ord. Fortunately these banks have been able to strengthen their hands preparato possible emergency as this. For months the Nebraska State has been putting its house in order by steady retrenchment and by increasits reserve. The First National only few weeks ago practically organized. They made the change of little word in their name but they did much more than that. They charged off all frozen paper, and put new capital. So the bank has heavy reserve and, like the Nebraska State, are ready for the worst, tho do not expect anyone to get panicky. Another thing only few days ago, when they printed their last statement, they made complete explanation of the meaning of every item frankly pointing out the meanof each. The effect of this was wholesome and comes in good play this time. Because of the disturbance caused by the failure of two banks Valley county the Nebraska State Bank publishing voluntarily in the Observer today statement of its condition on the same day, which show that both remaining banks are excellent condition.

REPAY COUNTY Receiver Must Sell Liberty Bonds Pledged As Security, Pay Valley County Almost ten thousand dollars belonging Valley county and that on deposit the State Bank when it failed last fall must be repaid to Valley county at the bank receiver Monday District Judge Ralph Horth. made suit filed by County Attorney Munn. On deposit the bank when closed of funds longing to county treasurer, $180 belonging to the and county attorney's offices and $198.belonging to the clerk's office. These deposits secured in Liberty bonds. The case was heard in district here March and that time Judge Horth required counsel submit briefs and then took the under advisement, rendering decision March In his decision Judge Horth dered Receiver Luikart, of the state department of trade and sell the Liberty bonds immediately their present marvalue, applying the proceeds repayment county deposits and interest. The balance become part of the funds of the bank. Judge Horth directed. The case filed by City Attorney Norman against the State bank along similar lines has not yet been heard.
