LOVEWELL May 15, 1928. Dr. Hobbs was called to the Juke Switzer home Friday evening as Sopha has been suffering with a severe atack of tonsilitis. (Mr. Clark and Miss Poole conducted the common school examination for the nine months term pupils Friday and Saturday at the grade school. Mr. Johnson of Webber took the papers to Mankato Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Smith drove to Superior to see the doctor Friday morning. Miss Minnie Scroggins and Mirs. Rothchild were the postoffice force for Friday and Saturday, respectively, durIng Miss Poole's absence. Sunday, the 27th, there will be an all day service at the M. E. church, and a basket dinner. In the evening the men's class will have charge of the services. The gospel team from Concordia will be here is the evening. Everyone welcome. Come Mart VanMeter of Mankato spent the week end with his mother and brothers here. Mrs. Ralph Hendricks helped her brother, Ben, in the cash store Saturday afternoon, while Juke was in Topeka. Miss Vera Rothchild spent the week end at her grandpa Davidson's near Webber. The graduating class received the proofs of their pictures Saturday morning, which they had taken at the Pratt Studio in Superior last Wednesday. Jake Switzer and son /Dale, drove to Topeka Saturday afternoon in response to an urgent message from Mrs. Simmons, that his wife, who had been visiting there for some time was much worse. Miss Bertha Simmons visited with Miss Lulu Miae Kerschner after school until the banquet Friday evening. Mrs. Mae Burns of near Webber WELL in town with her mother, Mrs. Bishop, Friday afternoon. They attended the farewell for Mrs. Williams. Mrs. Milner is still not very well. Dr. Starr removed ther tonsils last week and we hope for a speedy recovery. Mrs. Wilson's Sunday School class enjoyed another very pleasant afternoon, when they surprised one of their members, Mrs. Williams, Friday. The afternoon was spent in games and visiting, after which a covered dish luncheon was served. A great deal of merriment was occasioned when Mrs. Williams was given a string and was requested to follow It to the end, where she found a large package containing quilt blocks for a friendship quilt. The class are piecing for a friendship quilt for Mrs. Mary Swihart, who moved some time ago to Colorado. Mr. Dannefer, in Kansas City attending the trial of Mr. Cravens, who was president of the defunct Joint Stock Land Bank, for whom he worked for several years. Miss Oakie Hunter is slowly improving and is able to sit up a little. We will all be glad when her recovery is more complete. Mr. and Mrs. Stofer of Courtland were in town Friday evening and Mrs. Stofer attended the banquet. The Neddlecraft club will not meet until next week, the 24th, as this week is 80 well filled with the closing exercises of the high school and grade school. The grade school will attend the dinner at the high school Thursday and they expect to go to the park in Superior if the roads and weather are good, otherwise they will pienie at the school house. The Misses Larue and Rickert spent Tuesday evening at the Orvil Switzer home north of town. Mrs. Abble Swoveland of Burr Oak visited one day this week with her sister, Mrs. Dannefer, and they drove to Superior in the afternoon. The sophomores and Mr. Davidson went on a trip Wednesday to decide where the high school would hold their pienic. They are very secretive about it but have promised something new. They will go on the pienie Friday if the weather is good. The Normal Training class will go to Mankato Friday and Saturday, where they will take the state test for teachers' certificates. No ladies' aid meeting at either church this week, as the funeral on Wednesday and the Class Day dinner and program on Thursday will cancel both meetings. Brian Palmer, who is working for Mr. Mullins near Superior, spent the week end visiting this sister, Mrs. Dannefer. The funeral of Mrs. Sadie Switzer is being held this afternoon (Wednesday) from the Brethren church. All places of business in town will be closed this afternoon. The Cash store is closed all day. A number of relatives from a distance are here. A large shipment of flowers arrived from Superior this morning for the funeral. Wallace Mansfield's parents of Wy. more, Neb., spent the week end with him. They called on a number of friends in this community Sunday, Monday night, May 21st, is the regular meeting night of the Rebekah lodge Every member is urgently requested to be present as this is election of officers. Refreshments will be served. Friends of the Oraft family of Haddam, former residents of Lovewell, will be sorry to learn that their youngest son's health is in a very serious condition, from the after effects of the flu. Mr. Lympaneau, the bank receiver of Jewell City, was in town Saturday afternoon straightening out business at the bank. Mr. Sipps entertained some relatives and friends Saturday evening. Mr. Sipp and Miss Lulamae Kershner were the honor guests as the twelfth was their birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. Mannie Miller and his two sisters of Montrose were present. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Flisher of Courtland spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Garton. The high school will hold classes until iten o'clock on both Thursday and Friday. The seniors will have class day Thursday afternoon and the pienic on Friday.
