Fiftieth Anniversary- The Free Methodist church of St. Johns, which was built in 1872, celebrated its 50th anniversary from Thursday to Sunday. Rev. John Ellison was the pastor at the time of the building of the church and the dedicatory service was given by Rev. B. T. Roberts in November, 1872. The anniversary services started Thursday, evening. Several ministers from other churches were present and helped in the meetings. Rev. H. D. E. Gaffin of Belding and Rev. Myron DeVoist were the principal speakers during the anniversary services. Rev. DeVoist, who has been preaching for nearly fifty years, twenty years of which he was district elder, gave the semi-centennial sermon. Bank in Receivers Hands-At a session of circuit court held in Stanton, presided over by Judge Perkins of Grand Rapids, the Trufant Exchange Bank, a private concern owned by Carl Hansen, was placed in the hands of receivers.
