Springfield, Mo., Oct. 13.—W. B. Shepard was yesterday named receiver of the Commercial bank of this place. Assets $100,000; deposits $30,000.

Prices of anthracite coal are still looking up. The United States ranks 15th among the wine producing nations. A receiver was appointed for. the Commercial bank at Springfield, Mo. New York bank statement shows decreases of $3,500,000 in loans and $6,000,000 in deposits. M. B. Falconer & Co., one of Omaha's large dry goods houses, has been closed on chattel mortgage. A line of steamers from New Orleans to Trieste has been established by the Austro-American company. The sugar trust has abolished its rebate system and adopted some other method of serving the same purpose. Ex-Consul Bates of Singapore advises the introduction of raising Sumatra tobacco on the Southern United States coast. The Golden Reward Mining company of Deadwood, S. D., has sold all its property in that locality to a New York syndicate for $2,000,000.
