BANK RUN OPENED BY MULE TRADE LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug, 10.-A mule trade caused a run on the South Louisville bank today. The mule's purchaser gave a check and then stopped payment, The seller spread false reports about the bank, and the run followed. It was stopped when the bank officials exhibited $50,000 in cash.

MULE CAUSES RUN ON BANK. Trouble Comes When Purchaser Stops Payment of Check. LOUISVILLE, Ky., August 11.-A mule's death was responsible for a run on the South Louisville Band yesterday. A depositor Monday purchased the animal, giving in payment a check for $75. That night the animal died. Suspecting that he had been "stung" the purchaser stopped payment. The payee presented the check just before the bank closed and payment was refused. He left, spreading a report that the bank had ceased payments. More than one hundred depositors were in line seeking to withdraw their savings when the bank opened yesterday. By noon the real cause of the "run" had been learned and it stopped.
