Ex President Hoover blames bank panic on fear aroused by Democratic victory in election. A contract has been let for a new Government liner to cost $11,900,000. Most Rev. Alphonse John Smith, Catholic Bishop of Nashville died Monday at the age of 52. At the present there are 36 Italian cardinals and 32 of other nationalities. Spinal meningitis is raging in certain areas in Oklahoma and many deaths are reported. The Louisville News and Enquirer, Kentucky's newest daily, suspended publication Tuesday. President Roosevelt proposes a public works program that will cost the Federal Government $500,000,000. Three members of the State Tax Commission resigned Wednesday and members of the Public Service commission were fired. Mary Ellen Taylor, 17 year old Kentucky mountain girl inherits $600,000 provided she is married before February 29, 1936. Thelma Todd, film star, was found dead in her automobile Monday near the cafe she operated in Santa Monica, Calif. Lieut. Governor Keen Johnson was Governor of Kentucky over the week end wile Gov. Chandler was in Washington. Republicans have chosen Cleveland as the 1936 convention city to nominate a candidate for President. The auto accident toll in Louisville for 1935 has reached a total of 67 and of this number 45 were pedestrians. Gov. Chandler has asked for the resignation of hundreds of men who make up the numerous boards and commissions. Hobart Meade, Paintsville, Ky. bank teller, was shot and killed as he sat at the wheel of his car Monday night. Governor Chandler has announced that he will appoint very few—if any—Kentucky colonels. Laffoon commissioned 5000 on his staff. A new American altitude record was reached Saturday at Miami, Fla., when G. M. "Tex" Rankin, Portland, Ore., attained a height of 20,000 feet. Plans have been drawn for a $250,000 bus station in Louisville to accommodate all the 85 busses coming into and going out of that city. The week of January 13 has been set for the death in the electric chair of Bruno Richard Hauptman for the kidnap murder of Charles A. Lindbergh, Jr. Geo. W. Barrett, 50, Kentucky mountaineer, was sentenced, Saturday, to hang before sunrise in the Marion county jail in Indianapolis for the murder of a Federal agent.
